We all are safe to explore the Incredible Himalayas!

Hey Trekkers, recently, it has come to our notice that there have been reports of a probable earthquake in Uttarakhand and Himachal doing the rounds on the internet. This has a lot of trekkers worried about booking a trek in the region. We want to assure you that it is safe to trek and there is no risk of an imminent earthquake.

Trekking in India

We would like to shed some light on the matter. The seismologists at National Geographic Research Institute have predicted an earthquake along the Himalayan region of India but like all other earthquake predictions, this one is also mere speculation. It is not really possible to gauge the exact time and date of occurrence of an earthquake.

A recent article published in The Telegraph talks about what Mr Kalachand Sain, the  Director of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, had to say about the probability of the earthquake. Uttarakhand is located in a ‘Central Seismic Cap Zone’ which makes it a bit more sensitive to earthquakes as compared to other regions. While being in a seismic zone makes it prone to earthquakes but the exact time and date of the earthquake cannot be forecasted. The NGRI has set up 20 stations in Uttarakhand to monitor the situation and collect details through biometric GPS data processing but no such threat has been detected.

No notice or order of trek bans has been issued by the DFOs office or local authorities yet and as soon as we receive any kind of order, we will immediately inform all our customers. As of now the treks are running and safe to go. We are constantly monitoring the situation and are in touch with local authorities to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information. We will always keep our customers informed of any changes in the situation and take necessary actions as required.

At Trek The Himalayas, we understand the importance of safety when it comes to trekking in Uttarakhand and we will never put you in a position where your safety is comprised. Moreover, all our Trek Leaders are mountaineering certified and they are Wilderness First Aid Responders, so they are trained to deal with any kind of emergency situation in the mountains. You can trust us to be in safe hands.

We understand that some of our customers may be reluctant about embarking on a trek at this time due to this news. Therefore, we are offering flexible booking options to accommodate any changes in your plans. We want our customers to feel confident and secure when booking their trek with us, and we believe that this option provides the necessary peace of mind.

In conclusion, we want to reassure everyone that we are committed to providing a safe and rewarding trekking experience in Uttarakhand.
