INTRODUCTION
The Himalayas are more than just incredible views and rewarding hikes. These impressive mountains are the ones that we climb, admire, and fall in love with. They are dynamic ecosystems, home to fragile flowers that bloom for only a brief period each year, as well as rare wildlife.
This is their home. Everything in these mountains lives in perfect balance, feeding off the land, breathing its air, and drinking its water, just as nature intended.
But every time someone leaves behind a plastic wrapper or throws a bottle into a stream, that balance is broken.
Unlike our cities, waste here doesn’t just disappear. It lingers — polluting streams, harming animals, and damaging fragile environments. The more we ignore this, the more we harm the very beauty we came to witness.
At our core, we’re not just a trekking company, we’re protectors of these mountains. Through our Heal Himala initiative, we’re not just cleaning what’s been left behind. We’re working to ensure you don’t contribute to the problem.
We urge every trekker: take ownership of your waste. Carry it, pack it, and bring it back. The trails you walk today should look just as pristine as the ones that follow tomorrow.
You’ve come here for peace, for challenge, for awe-inspiring beauty. Let’s return the favour by leaving the Himalayas exactly as we found them — untouched and pure. Let’s walk with pride and leave only footprints behind.
The Journey of Heal Himala Initiative
How Heal-Himala Works
Heal Himala is our special campaign to keep the Himalayan trails clean and beautiful. It is not just about picking up litter, it’s about building a strong sense of responsibility among trekkers and our team members. Here's how it works in a simple and organized way:
Under the Heal Himala initiative, we make sure that clean-up drives are regularly held on the trekking trails. After every four batches of trekkers, one big cleanup drive must be organized. Additionally, small voluntary cleanup drives will also occur between these events, depending on trail conditions and team availability.
These clean-up drives are not only about cleaning, they also help spread awareness. When trekkers see our team cleaning the trail, it encourages them to become more responsible and respectful toward nature.
Every trek leader in our company takes part in the Heal Himala campaign. The responsibility of leading the clean-up drives is rotated among the trek leaders, ensuring that everyone has a chance to contribute.
To ensure clarity and fairness, the Base Camp Manager assigns the cleanup responsibilities. This way, there is no confusion, and everyone participates equally in keeping the mountains clean.
All the necessary tools for cleanup, including reusable gloves, trash bags, and safety gear, are available at the base camp. This ensures that the cleanup drive runs smoothly and that no one faces any difficulty while performing their duties.
At the campsites, we encourage trekkers to separate their waste into different categories, such as dry waste (wrappers, plastics, and bottles) and food waste (leftover food and fruit peels). This makes it easier for us to dispose of the waste properly in the future.
However, during trail clean-up activities, we do not ask trekkers to sort the trash they collect. The Heal Himala team will do that after the waste is brought back to base camp. This is to avoid placing undue pressure on trekkers and to keep the process straightforward for them.
When our team handles the trash, we ensure that food waste is always kept separate from dry waste, allowing for proper recycling and disposal. This helps reduce environmental damage and protects wildlife.
We encourage trekkers to participate in clean-up drives by explaining the reasons and purpose behind the Heal Himala campaign. We tell them how their small action can create a big difference in protecting the Himalayas.
However, it is essential to remember that their participation must be voluntary . We do not force or pressure anyone. Instead, we believe in inspiring people through awareness and example, not rules. When trekkers witness the positive impact of this work, many of them happily join in and take pride in helping.
On many treks, you’ll find local vendors along the route serving hot rajma chawal, tea, and snacks to trekkers. These stalls are a lifesaver when you’re tired and hungry. However, with food comes waste, and often, because vendors lack dustbins or proper resources, the gar bage ends up scattered around. It makes the place dirty, and sometimes street dogs eat plastic or leftovers, which can harm them badly.
To help with this, we give trash bags to these vendors and ask them to collect all the waste. Whenever their bag gets full, they simply call or notify our team. We pick up the whole bag and give them a new one right there.
As a token of appreciation, we provide them with 1 kg of rice or sugar for every full trash bag they hand over. It’s a small reward, but it goes a long way. This way, the place stays clean, animals remain safe, and the vendors also feel supported. Everyone wins—nature, animals, trekkers, and the locals.
Collect Waste, Earn Rewards
Make Your Trek Count!
What if your small act of kindness towards nature could win you a GIFT? Sounds exciting.
As part of our clean mountain initiative, trekkers who collect at least 1 kg of trail waste and submit it at the base camp will receive an official acknowledgment receipt. All these entries will be considered for a season-end lucky draw, where three participants will win exciting prizes.
Even if luck doesn’t favour you this time, there’s a deeper reward, the joy of giving back to the mountains. It's a step towards responsible trekking, where every contribution helps preserve the beauty of our trails for future adventurers.

Highlights from Our Latest Heal Himala Clean-Up Drive
On July 07,2025, in yet another dedicated cleanup drive under our "Heal Himala" initiative, our team collected over 468 kg of waste from the Dayara Bugyal trails. While we're proud of our team's unwavering commitment to our "Leave No Trace" policy, it's disheartening to see the growing negligence and carelessness shown by many trekkers towards the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
These mountains give us so much - peace, perspective, and unforgettable experiences. But in return, we often leave behind plastic, wrappers, and waste that tarnish their beauty and harm their delicate environment.
