Major Attractions of Bhrigu Lake Trek

  • Bhrigu Lake: The Bhrigu Lake being the major highlight of the trek is the crown jewel that will surely captivate you with its beauty. The lake sits gracefully amidst a landscape of lush meadows and towering mountains, creating a picture-perfect setting. Bhrigu lake is also considered auspicious and sacred by the locals. Legend has it that Maharishi Bhrigu, a prominent figure in Hindu mythology, used to meditate near the lake and hence gave it the name.
  • Meadows- Another enchanting aspect of the Bhrigu Lake trek is its beautiful meadows, which greet you much earlier than most other Himalayan trails. Unlike other treks where lush alpine meadows reveal themselves only after a couple of days of trekking, here you’ll find yourself surrounded by sprawling grasslands within the first hour itself. These vast, undulating meadows stretch endlessly against a backdrop of snow-clad peaks, creating a dreamlike setting. These meadows not only enhance the visual experience of the trek but also provide perfect spots to pause, relax, and soak in the serene beauty of the Himalayas.
  • Panoramic Views: One of the best things about the trekking to Bhrigu Lake is the beautiful views you get throughout the journey. Whether you’re walking along the trail, resting at the campsite, or standing by the lake, you’re always surrounded by stunning Himalayan scenery. From the Rola Kholi campsite, you can enjoy clear views of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges, their snow-covered peaks shining in the distance. As you reach the lake, you’ll see famous Himalayan peaks like Deo Tibba, Hanuman Tibba, and the Seven Sisters standing tall against the sky. From the ridge near the lake, you also get a wonderful view of Solang Valley and Manali far below, adding to the charm of the trek.
  • Flora and Fauna: The Bhrigu Lake trek offers a wonderful chance to experience a rich variety of flora and fauna along the way. For nature and wildlife lovers, this trek is a must-visit. The trail takes you through a little forested section and vast rolling meadows, creating a calm and refreshing environment. If you visit during the right season, you might also spot bright red and pink Rhododendrons.

How to reach —Bhrigu Lake Trek Maps

Pick UP Information

  • Once you have reached the assembly point of the trek in Manali, TTH will manage the rest of your travel arrangements, if you have opted for TTH's pick-up service, you can select this option during the booking process by adding it as an add-on.

Options to Reach Manali

First, you can arrive at Chandigarh, Delhi, Pathankot, or Bhuntar airport. The journey from these locations to Manali is explained below.

1. Take an overnight bus to Manali from Delhi or Chandigarh, taking a bus from Chandigarh is the most ideal option.

  • Chandigarh to Manali Bus: 10 hours.
  • Delhi to Manali Bus: 14 hours is hectic and takes more time.

( We strongly recommend going for the govt. Buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. Buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Manali at 10 am. )

2. You can take a flight to Bhuntar Airport (but we would not recommend it because of the high prices of the flight and very high chances of cancellations), Manali is just a couple of hours away and you can easily get a bus or a private taxi till there. If you do plan to come via Bhuntar, make sure to reach at least a day before the trek starts.

3. You can even come via train, Chandigarh railway station is from where you can get direct buses to Kullu/Kasol/Manali that is 275 km from there and would take an overnight journey. Even in this case, reach a day before at Manali.

( If you prefer to travel independently, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab. Your trek coordinator will provide guidance on how to arrange for the bus or cab booking.)

Drop-Off Information

  • The designated drop-off point is the Manali Gov bus stand around  6:30 pm to 7:30 pm .
  • Please consider planning your subsequent travel arrangements after 8:00 pm.
  • It's highly advisable to keep a buffer day in your travel plan. If the buffer day is not needed, it can be used to explore Manali.
  • TTH offers comfortable transportation through Tempo Traveler, Bolero, or equivalent vehicles. If you wish to upgrade your mode of transportation, please contact your trek coordinator for further assistance.

Bhrigu Lake Trek Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

red line

The Bhrigu Lake is perched at a height of around 13,700 feet (4,200 meters) above sea level. This high-altitude glacial lake is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and alpine meadows, making it a beautiful sight to witness, especially during late spring and early summer.

The total trekking distance covered during the Bhrigu Lake Trek is around 24 kilometers. The journey starts with a short drive from Manali to Gulaba, which serves as the base point for the trek. From Gulaba, you’ll begin your walk through dense forests, beautiful open meadows, and varied landscapes before finally reaching the stunning glacial lake. Spread over a few days, the trek offers scenic views and peaceful surroundings throughout the route.

It usually takes around 4 days to complete the Bhrigu Lake Trek from Manali and back. The trek is planned over a few days to help trekkers get used to the altitude and enjoy the beautiful landscapes without rushing. These four days include your drive from Manali to the base point, trekking through meadows and forests, reaching Bhrigu Lake, and then returning to Manali.

The best time to do the Bhrigu Lake Trek is during the months of May and June. At this time, the trail is at its most beautiful, with pleasant weather and ideal walking conditions. The snow is just the right amount, not too much to make the trek difficult, and not too little to miss out on the charm of snow-covered landscapes. You can enjoy clear views of the surrounding mountains, fresh green meadows, and patches of snow along the way, especially near the lake.

While the Bhrigu Lake Trek covers a relatively short distance compared to other high-altitude treks, it’s not recommended to complete it in a single day. Since the trek reaches an altitude of 13,700 ft, it’s important to give yourself time to acclimatize to the changing heights. Rushing through the trek can lead to tiredness, altitude sickness, and you might miss out on the beautiful landscapes, peaceful meadows, and the chance to camp under the stars.

With the Trek The Himalayas (TTH) fixed itinerary, this trek is well-planned over 4 days for a safe and enjoyable experience. If you prefer, you can also customize your trek to complete it in fewer or more days according to your fitness and trekking experience, but it’s always better to take your time and soak in the surroundings.

Whether you’ll find snow on the Bhrigu Lake Trek in June depends entirely on the weather conditions that year. Generally, the lower sections of the trek, especially around Gulaba and the meadows, lose most of their snow by early June. However, as you gain altitude and move closer to Bhrigu Lake, there’s a good chance you’ll still find patches of snow, especially near the lake itself and in shaded areas. June is a great time to experience both lush green meadows and lingering snow, making the trek even more beautiful.

The Bhrigu Lake Trek route begins with a short, scenic drive from Manali to Gulaba, which serves as the starting point of the trek. From Gulaba, you’ll trek to Gulaba Meadows, where you’ll set up camp for the night amidst beautiful open grasslands. On the second day, the trek continues from Gulaba Meadows to Rola Kholi, another lovely campsite surrounded by mountains. The next day is the main highlight as you trek from Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake, enjoy the amazing views, and then return to Rola Kholi by evening. On the final day, you’ll descend from Rola Kholi to Gulaba and then drive back to Manali. It’s a well-balanced route designed to offer beautiful views, manageable distances, and enough time for acclimatization.

During the Bhrigu Lake Trek, trekkers stay in campsites at different points along the trail. Accommodation is provided in comfortable, weatherproof tents. Usually, twin-sharing tents are offered, where two trekkers share one tent. These campsites are set up in beautiful open meadows or clearings surrounded by mountains, giving you a true experience of staying in nature.

The Bhrigu Lake Trek Package includes all essential facilities to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. A comfortable accommodation and all meals are provided, including tea, soup, and snacks. The package also includes a professional trek leader, experienced local guides, a skilled high-altitude chef, and sufficient support staff. High-quality trek equipment like tents, sleeping bags, and essential safety gear is provided.

Medical assistance is available with a first aid kit, oxygen cylinder, and other necessary equipment. Transportation for the entire trek route, including pick-up and drop-off, is included. Additionally, mules or porters carry central luggage, a cloakroom facility is available for extra baggage, and all necessary permits and entry fees are covered. A trek completion certificate is also provided.
