The Kuari Pass Trek, located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India, is a captivating journey that unveils the serene beauty of the Himalayas during the winter season. This trek, often referred to as the "Curzon's Trail," is at an altitude of 12750 Ft. The Uttarakhand Kuari Pass trek takes you through snow-covered landscapes and charming villages. It is known for its stunning views of the Garhwal Himalayas and majestic peaks visible like Nanda Devi, which is the second-highest mountain in India as well as Dronagiri, and Kamet

The trek starts from the village of Pipalkoti and takes through Gulling Top, Tali Forest Camp, and finally to Kuari Pass. Along the way, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of majestic peaks like Gauri Parbat, Hathi Parbat, Neelkanth, and Kedarkantha Peak

There are two trek routes starting from Pipalkoti. One is Pangarchulla Trek and another is the Kuari Pass Trek. The Pangarchulla Trek provides a tough route but rewards you with amazing views of the Nanda Devi and the Chaukhamba range. Whereas the Kuari Pass Trek, known for its winter beauty provides you with a close-up view of the peaks like Gauri Parbat, Kedarkantha, Nanda Ghunti, Hathi Ghoda Parbat, Neelkanth, Dronagiri, Lampak I & II, etc

As you trek, you'll traverse through very dense forests, charming meadows like Gorson Bugyal, and alpine zones, and will experience the beauty of changing seasons. During winter, the trail is transformed into a snowy wonderland, which showcases the white landscapes and clear, crisp air.

The trek’s moderate difficulty level makes it accessible for both seasoned trekkers and fit beginners. The journey typically takes 6-7 days, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty and tranquility of the region. Along the way, you’ll encounter traditional villages, interact with local communities, and enjoy the environment away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The trees are covered with snow, not like all the others that we usually see. There is a yellow and green glimpse of the tree's leaves covered with snow. When you look up, you will still find those big trees and not the sky. And in between them, the sun peeks through the branches, a nature’s companion that follows us.

Even if you’ve experienced many treks, the snow-draped forest of Kuari Pass will still take your breath away. The landscape features golden oaks and tall pine trees, leading to a dreamy campsite situated within the forest. After a day of trekking through this winter wonderland, resting at a camp surrounded by such beauty is truly a perfect way to end the adventure.

Why is it called Curzon’s Trail? Is it the Kuari Pass Trek or Lord Curzon’s Trail?

Lord Curzon was an avid trekker and explorer, and he is known for his extensive travels in the Himalayas. During his tenure, he undertook the trek through the Kuari Pass which is often called Lord Curzon’s Trail and was so impressed by its beauty that he promoted it as a notable trekking route.

Lord Curzon's endorsement and exploration of the pass significantly increased its popularity, leading to the trek being named in his honour. The association with Curzon adds a historical charm to the Kuari Pass trek, linking it to the legacy of British exploration in India.
