The Hamlets, Abode of Peace and Heritage

The height to which Har ki Dun trek will lead you to is 12,000 ft through a 7 days journey. Needless to say, you will come across many mountain settlements across this journey. But here is a catch – Har Ki Dun Valley nestles quite a few hamlets, which are unique for their presence through history and heritage. You will be even crossing a village that tells you tales from times dating 300 years back! Spellbinding! Yes, the Har Ki Doon trek, Uttarakhand, is a journey through picturesque villages that offer a glimpse into the region's rich culture and serene landscapes. This trek can easily be called a heritage walk through quaint villages, as well.

The trek begins at the picturesque, quiet village of Sankri, a popular base camp for several treks in this Himalayan region. Sankri, with its traditional wooden houses and apple orchards, serves as an ideal starting point for trekkers, providing basic amenities and a taste of local hospitality.

As you ascend, you reach Taluka, a small hamlet surrounded by dense forests and gushing streams. The path to Taluka is often lined with rhododendron and pine trees, creating a refreshing and scenic environment. Taluka's rustic charm is amplified by its traditional architecture and the simplicity of the Himalayan village life.

Further along the trail, the village of Osla awaits. Perched at an altitude of 2560 metres, Osla is renowned for its unique cultural heritage and the ancient Duryodhana temple, dedicated to the Kaurava prince from the Mahabharata. Once you enter Osla it feels like time has stopped! The rich ornamentation in wood of the Duryoadhana temple, the simple yet eye-catching small wooden huts, the rustic charm of the mountain lifestyle reflected everywhere – you will experience a profound peace and spirituality surrounding this quaint village.

The villagers of Osla, primarily of the Garhwali community, are known for their warm hospitality. Their wooden homes, adorned with intricate carvings, reflect the traditional Himalayan architecture. Osla offers a unique cultural experience, where one can witness the daily lives of the villagers, their agricultural practices, and traditional crafts.

The final village on the trek is Seema, located near Osla, and often considered its twin village. Seema serves as a common resting point for trekkers heading to Har Ki Doon.
