Dzo Jongo Peak Trek: Himalayan Expedition

Dear Trekkers,

Are you looking for a challenging trek that offers breathtaking views and a chance to experience the Himalayan culture? Look no further than the Dzo Jongo Peak Trek Expedition.

Dzo Jongo Peak Trek

The Dzo Jongo Peak is located in the beautiful Zanskar region of Ladakh in northern India. Standing tall at an altitude of 6,250 meters, this peak offers a challenging climb and stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The trek takes you through picturesque villages, remote landscapes, and pristine alpine meadows.

From Leh to Dzo Jongo Peak

Dzo Jongo Peak Trek

The journey to Dzo Jongo Peak starts from the beautiful town of Leh. You'll arrive in Leh and spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude. You can explore the local markets and enjoy the scenic views of the city.

After a day of acclimatization in Leh, head to the quaint hamlet of Lato. Here, one can see the barren landscapes that are characteristic of Ladakh. At night, the sky is exquisitely dazzling with a kaleidoscope of stars. Lato is one of the oldest villages of Ladakh and home to one of the oldest monasteries. Did you know? The Lato Village also lies in the same spot where there had been a catastrophic collision some 60 years ago!

Spending another acclimatization day at Lato, we will trek towards Shiul Sumdo. Walk along a beautiful river and cross it a couple of times before reaching the village. Enjoy your first night of camping in the valleys of Ladakh! The next part of the trek takes you to the Shiul Pass which offers panoramic views of the Ladakh Range and the Karakoram Range.

As we head towards the Dzo Jongo Base Camp via the Chak Pass, the ascend becomes more thrilling. The terrain gets steeper and steeper as you climb ahead. Today, you will get the first glimpse of the Dzo Jongo Peak that otherwise remains hidden in the Markha Valley. Weather at this point can be unpredictable so be prepared.

After resting and training at the base camp, the most exciting part of the journey begins - the summit of the Dzo Jongo Peak. The summit climb is going to be extensively adventurous and at the same time quite strenuous. As you pass through each rest point, the path becomes steeper and steeper until you reach the summit point at 6,250 m. The sense of this accomplishment is unlike any other!

From the summit, it’s a journey back to Base Camp and then to Chokdo via the high pass Kong Maru La! From the pass, you get to witness a bird’s eye view of the stunning Indus Valley as well as the Ladakh Range. From Chokdo you will drive back to Leh ending the beautiful journey!

In general, trekking in the mountains is always categorised as either climbing or walking on the mountain trails. The thing is that to climb some high grade of mountains, more than basic skills and techniques of climbing are required to learn. In fact, the ‘technical climbing’? It is not just for high-grade level mountain expeditions; this kind of technical knowledge is quite useful even in the easy graded expedition to ensure the safety of the trekker throughout their trek.

There is one question that every trek leader asks their trekkers when they first meet them: Do they really understand the importance of trekking shoes for their trek? Well, that is exactly what our trek leader (name) is going to enlighten us all about. First and foremost, it's essential to understand that trekking shoes are the foundation of a good trekking experience. If you are not carrying good quality shoes, then no matter how confident, strong, or motivated you are. You are bound to slip or slow down while walking on your trek. And as someone who has spent years climbing up and down the Himalayan trail several times. There is one thing that he said with complete certainty: The right trekking shoes can make or break your trek.
