Disclaimer: This Ranthan Kharak trek experience has been shared by one of our trekkers. After completing several treks with TTH, she has shared her personal trekking experience at the Ranthan Kharak Trek with us.
You know, a lot of times we come across something so surreal that even its existence leaves us wondering how something so magnificent can exist. And believe it or not, that’s exactly how I felt when I first set foot in Ranthan Kharak.
After doing a few treks, I really wondered what more possible trek would surprise me with. I mean, I had done a few treks before; I knew what to expect from mountains, their terrain, and everything else…but I couldn't possibly be more wrong. This trek proved me completely wrong in the most beautiful way possible.
Now, this was maybe my 3rd or 4th trek that I was doing with Trek The Himalayas, so I wasn’t nervous. There was no overthinking, just excitement building up inside me because I knew I was about to experience one of the most surreal adventures of my life.
Many of you might not know this, but Ranthan Kharak Trek is nestled deep in the Kumaon Himalayas. The trail of this trek is filled with remote villages like Gogina and Namik, scenic views of meadows, beautiful skies and stunning mountain views. In fact, during the briefing, our trek leader mentioned that the meadows of this trek lie at an altitude of around 13,000 ft.
On my previous treks, I had already experienced walking on the deep forest trail, watching vast meadows and giant mountains but nothing comes close to the Ranthan Kharak experience.
The trail of this trek is raw and untouched, with dense oak and rhododendrons forest towering the whole path, giving it an ancient charm. And since very few people have travelled to this region, the silence here feels so calming and grounding.
Among all the beautiful sights, the never ending vast “Kharaks” were the most eye catching sight to behold. They appeared suddenly in the middle of a dense forest, and stretched in the whole area like an endless green carpet.
When we were told that it would be our campsites, I was on cloud nine. It was so unbelievably beautiful that it felt like I was stepping in some magical place.
And the most amazing thing that I was really looking forward to throughout the whole 7 day trek was that unsaid morning ritual.
Every morning, I would step out of my tent to feel the crisp mountain air gently touch my face. Instead of concrete buildings, I was greeted by majestic mountain views. A sense of calm would take over, and as I stood there, quietly absorbing the beauty, I would take a sip of warm tea pausing to truly take it all in.
Some mornings brought the mist floating through the trees, while others revealed the clear skies and snow-covered peaks like Mount Mrigthuni, Nanda Devi, Sunanda Devi and the stunning Panchachuli Range standing silently in the distance.
And the best part? These views didn’t come all at once. They revealed themselves slowly… just like the trek.
You know during this journey, I realized that every trek has its own rhythm. Like if you do Brahamatal trek or other trek, you will be moving constantly in your journey. But on Ranthan Kharak Trek you won’t feel rushed at all. Here, you will move at a steady, comfortable pace.
What I truly loved about this trek is that it doesn’t try to impress you. Its beauty simply exists, and allows you to discover it in your own time.
Before sharing more about my fellow trekkers and my overall experience with Trek The Himalayas, here are some highlights from the trail.
You know, there are few things that I can confidently guarantee about this trek. First, in these seven days, you are bound to fall in love with the simplicity of mountain life. Second, you will realise how vast, surreal and unpredictable nature truly is and the beauty of it? Believe me every word will feel like it falls short of doing justice to nature’s true beauty.
One thing that I’ve learned from trekking is that the people who you travel with can truly shape your experience. I mean, with good people, you are always going to make great memories.
Even though I’ve done a few treks, meeting with new people never felt like a routine to me. Each journey brings together strangers with different stories and reasons for being there.
But as we moved forward on those trails together, through all those climbs, the breaks, and the shared laughter, those strangers slowly started turning into familiar faces… and eventually became friends.
Every person contributed differently throughout the trek, some settled the pace of the trek, some were cracking jokes even during steep climbs to keep our spirits high, and some were walking quietly but always noticed everything. Yet somehow, everyone became a part of a team without even trying.
We shared snacks, stories, and even silence while trekking. There were moments when none of us felt the need to speak, because that silence was just as meaningful as the loud, laughter-filled moments and conversations.
That’s when I realized these journeys are not just about the mountains, but also about the people you experience them with.
Now, since I had already done a few treks with “Trek The Himalayas” before going on Ranthan Kharaka Trek, one thing that I can guarantee about them is that no matter how many times you will go a trekking journey with them, every time they will surprise you with something different.
Honestly, I don’t know how they do it, but every trek that I have been on so far under their team guidance their arrangements and facilities have always set a high bar. And their food? It just keeps getting better with every trek.
I mean just imagine: After long hours of walking, you come back to your camps. Your body is tired, but suddenly you smell something cooking in the kitchen tent, something delicious, and in that moment, you happen to forget all of your exhaustion.
That food was everything and more I could have asked for, especially while being in the mountains at such high altitude. All the meals were hot and fresh, with a variety of food available that felt like a home-cooked meal. It became a bonus point for TTH and made me realize how essential good food is on a trek.
And the evening soups? Still my favorite. Sitting in the cold, holding a warm cup, surrounded by people who were strangers just days ago. It's a feeling that’s hard to explain but impossible to forget.
Apart from food, all the arrangements were equally impressive for example -
And all these things are major reasons for me to always choose “Trek The Himalayas” as my trekking partner.
See, Ranthan Kharak is for sure one of those treks that didn’t rush me at all.
In fact, once I reached there, after seeing the calm surroundings, I had an urge to walk alone on the stretches of the trail to listen and feel my own footsteps against the grassy surface, to experience the feeling of living in the moment, and to realize how important even small things are.
Apart from that, in this trek journey, the higher I went, the more kind of experience I gathered for a lifetime, like I walked for miles, got to laugh nonstop, clicked lots of pictures to create memories, and even had a moment of solitude with the mountains.
And that’s what made it special. The trail, the views, the moments, the people, and TTH.
The way this journey gave me an opportunity to form a deeper connection with nature, with people, and with myself was truly remarkable for me.
It reminded me that even if I’ve done various treks before, that doesn’t matter because every trek has something new to offer. A new lesson, a new feeling, a new version of you.
And maybe that’s why I kept going back.
Because the mountains never feel the same… and somehow, neither did I.
So, if you also want to gain the same kind of refreshing experience that will feel truly surreal, my suggestion is go and choose the Ranthan Kharak Trek because this trek is truly magical.
If you're planning to explore another trekking region, don’t hesitate to reach out to Trek The Himalayas, they genuinely know how to make your journey comfortable and memorable.
