Your journey commences at Kathgodam, where our representative will pick you up from the Kathgodam Railway Station and drive you to the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary from where the trek starts. Binsar Sanctuary is about 110 km from Kathgodam and it takes about 4 hrs to drive to the Sanctuary. Kumaon is a scenic destination and the road from Kathgodam to Binsar demonstrates the extraordinary natural beauty.
Your first stop during the trek is Sapteshwar Mahadev Temple. Once you reach the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, we will take the path that turns right from the sanctuary, leading us to the temple. The trek passes a village named Deora and after trekking for about 1.5 hrs, you will reach the temple. There’s a tea stall on the way to the temple, a great spot to rest for a while and refresh yourself before retracing the same path that we came in and restarting your Binsar trek.
Continue trekking in the northwest direction and soon the trail opens up in a scenic valley. You will be able to spot two diversions here and we will take the path that leads us deeper into the sanctuary. An irrigation channel also passes through the sanctuary, designed to divert water from the stream towards the nearby localities. There are two options that you choose from here: one is the cemented walls of the irrigation channel and the other is to walk down to the valley floor and continue in the northwest direction and soon after you will reach the same stream. Cross the concrete bridge to get to the other side and continue on your trek.
From the bridge, the trail begins to ascend gradually and after about an hour of ascending, you will come across a tiny hamlet within the confines of the sanctuary, after this village the road becomes levelled and you will continue to trek further northwest through pine covers before descending to a small stream. From this point, the path snakes along a hill and to your right side, directly below you can spot the villages again. The silence of the trek is often interrupted by the calls of the birds.
About an hours’ trek in the same direction leads you to a mud and brick hut, which is actually another tea stall, where you can relish a refreshing drink before you head on your path again. Once refreshed, follow the trail which now bends in the northeast direction progressing into a dense cover of Oak and Rhododendron. The bright red Rhododendrons when in full bloom add such a vibrant dose of red to the jungles that it leaves you awestruck. Keep your sight on the right and you will sight many magnificent peaks blanketed in snow.
Continue hiking for 2 to 3 hours more after which the trail spirals towards the east. When on this route if you just turn northwest, you will catch a glimpse of the hilltop with tiny houses, this is the village of Jwalabanj. From here a gradual descent on a well-defined path will lead you to Dhaulchina. Get unsurpassed views of the Kumaon region dotted with white peaks on the horizon. Trekking through the jungles of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a remarkable experience and camping in the serene and peaceful environment of Dhaulchina is sure to melt all the stress away.
Waking up to a mesmerizing sunrise and relishing scrumptious breakfast, you will head towards the Jageshwar Temple and then drive back to Kathgodam, ending your beautiful weekend. From Dhaulchina head to the nearby rock garden to get the best views of the Central Himalayan mountains. A trek to the hilltop gives some of the most amazing 360-degree views of the mountains.
From the rock garden, we will trek towards the Jageshwar Temple. This part of the trek is full of many boulders, serving as ideal picnic spots. The lush jungles of the Binsar Sanctuary echo with sounds of nature and chirping birds. This Wildlife Sanctuary is especially famed for its bird population and you will get to spot many Himalayan birds here. If you are a wildlife photographer, you will get to spot many unique avian species here.
After walking on the trail for some time, you will come across a motorable road that descends gently towards the temples. From the road, take the diversion that follows a narrow trail along forested slopes and charming Kumaoni settlements and into dense forest covers once again into the serene environs of the Jageshwar temple. Binsar trek gives you a beautiful dreamy setting for leisure walks and hikes in nature’s embrace with views of snow-capped mountains from the top. A guided tour with our mountaineering certified trek leaders will help you get the best out of your trip. Once you spend some time at Jageshwar Temple, you will be driven back to Kathgodam, concluding the journey.

If by a rare consequence TTH calls off/cancels a trek:
At TTH, we almost never call off or cancel our treks. But in the rare event that we do call off or cancel a trek due to any unforeseen circumstances or natural catastrophes like continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that prevents us from carrying out a trek in a safe manner, unforeseeable circumstances like local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any such situations that prevents a safe trekking experience, TTH will issue a voucher summing up to the same amount as your trek fee. The voucher can be redeemed on any of the treks over a period of the next year.
Note
In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:
As we mention always, weather conditions at high altitudes are extremely unpredictable and can change at any time of any day. Also, situations like natural calamities or political unrest, pandemics and lockdowns, etc are out of our control and if an event cannot run under any such circumstances that we do not directly have control over then we will try to give you an alternative trek, which means your trek will be shifted from one trek to another, which will be safer and more favourable.
In these cases, a voucher is issued to mitigate the difference in cost between the two treks. You can redeem the voucher at any time over a period of one year from the date of issue. A refund fee or refund of the difference is not applicable.
Note:
Cash Voucher Terms:
